Getting married in Croatia as a foreigner: A Summer Elopement in Korčula

Perhaps the familiar skylines and landscapes no longer feel quite enough. If you’ve been dreaming of taking your wedding celebration somewhere unexpected, but with a refined touch suitable to your taste, I’d consider Croatia as an effortless blend of what couples seem to appreciate the most: sun, authentic setting and well-established selection of high quality services.

Having worked in weddings for years now, I’ve seen Croatia become a well-established wedding destination for couples all around the world. Korčula, a timeless coastal town near Dubrovnik, steel feels wonderfully undiscovered. The rich character drew in Irena & Dan all the way from London to celebrate their special day by centuries-old stone walls.

As foreign nationals, their first step was to contact the Civil Registry Office of the Town of Korčula by e-mail to arrange a Civil wedding ceremony for their chosen date. After all the necessary documents were provided, the date was successfully secured.

Irena & Dan envisioned their day as a nod to modern, fashion-forward and sleek aesthetic. With sought-after wedding photographers often booked well in advance, finding the right photographer was an important part of shaping their day. I was incredibly honored from the very moment the bride enquired with me through my web. Listing that a blend of editorial, clean-lined, documentary and film-photography were at the top of their wishes, I immediately knew I aligned with their wishes.

As the ceremony and photographer secured, the couple turned their attention to styling the day. The color palette centered around white, complemented with golden accents, coastal sage, almond cream and clockwork brown. The bride opted for a refined midi-length silhouette with tassel detailing, while the groom’s jacket introduced a fresh vibrant note. Shortly after booking the photographer, Irena also secured Bakarique Beauty as her makeup artist, completing the considered aesthetic.

Once the ceremony is planned, accommodation is one of the next things engaged couples might want to establish. Korčula holds the ground very firmly as a town very rich in heritage and beauty, making it the next most popular city after Dubrovnik. For couples whose priorities include staying within or close to the Old Town and, booking your suite as far as 12 months certainly isn’t too excessive.

Beyond the essentials, there are countless details to consider, but your weddings should ultimately be defined by what feels meaningful to you. Whether that might be a touch of florals rich in color, a private boat ride or a candlelit dining experience.

What made Korčula particularly memorable for my clients the sense of place – a remote and beautifully preserved setting, where the stone streets acted as the perfect backdrop. The celebration extended far beyond the City Hall located in the heart of the Old Town, unfolding organically while taking care of preserving the memories photographically.

The couple along with their witnesses, made a thoughtful decision to work closely with me to in shaping the photography timeline, allowing us to make the most of Korčula’s light, architecture and carefully selected spots I knew would work beautifully.

I kept the itinerary deliberately simple, including a walkable part of this Adriatic coastal town and built our experience around 3 key moments: portraits with their closest guests before the ceremony, the ceremony itself, and dedicated time for the newlyweds to step away together, in an intimate and atmospheric setting.

This editorial wedding in Korčula brought together many of the elements I value the most in my imagery: fashion-forward compositions, flash photography and delicate moments captured with film. After receiving the preview I typically send within 72h, my clients shared:

“My husband and I are thrilled with the wedding photos, we absolutely love them all. Tihana made the experience so easy and fun, gave direction when needed but also allowed us to share our ideas and be ourselves. Memories for life.”

-I&D, August 2025

For couples considering a wedding in Korčula, one of the greatest advantages is the opportunity to make the destination itself part of the celebration. Mediterranean landscapes are not only a source of endless inspiration in creating a visual experience, while the island offers something equally valuable beyond the photographs: a feeling of true escape, sun-drenched days and an exceptional culinary experience.

For couples planning a destination wedding in the streets of Korčula’s Old Town, I would love to help you to create a plan for photographs that feel intentional, personal and enduring – much as the place itself.
